Description
German peasants purchase indulgences from friar Johann Tetzel, a document that offered remission of the punishment of sin for a purchase price. The document was signed by Pope Leo X (1517). This practice influenced Martin Luther to post his 95 Theses which denounced indulgences, and led to the Protestant Reformation. Pencil drawing.
